FAQs for General Information
What are the four accreditation tiers, and what do they mean?
- A Trained IEW Instructor has watched the Teaching Writing: Structure and Style seminar and completed all practicum assignments.
- An Experienced IEW Instructor has been a Trained IEW Instructor for one year or more and has taught students for at least one year. The teacher has demonstrated experience in a specific level by submitting graded student papers.
- An Accomplished IEW Instructor has been an Experienced IEW Instructor for two years or more and has submitted graded student papers and a personal essay about his or her experience following the IEW Structure and Style methodology.
- Accreditation as a Master IEW Instructor is reserved for Andrew Pudewa and a few select others who train instructors for the Institute for Excellence in Writing.
What are the levels of accreditation for Experienced and Accomplished instructors?
Experienced and Accomplished instructors are accredited at three different levels. These levels do not reflect that one instructor is more qualified than another. Rather, these levels specify the instructor’s area of expertise.
Level A indicates 3rd–5th grade level
Level B indicates 6th–8th grade level
Level C indicates 9th–12th grade level
What are the requirements to become an accredited IEW instructor?
Why should I become an accredited IEW instructor?
Individuals who submit their practicum assignments receive thoughtful feedback from a Master IEW Instructor. This provides you with confidence that you have a thorough understanding of the IEW Structure and Style methodology. It also validates your work as an instructor and grants you the right to offer IEW writing classes, use an IEW accreditation badge and digital assets for display in online ads and websites for advertising, and access the IEW website to advertise your services.
How will being an accredited IEW instructor help me advertise my classes?
Accredited IEW instructors who input information about their services will find that the IEW search engine helps advertise your writing classes, connecting you with the right students. Individuals searching for tutors, classes, and grading services can filter by level, curriculum, and other specific needs. This targeted approach increases visibility and enrollment.
Why is it important that I hire an accredited IEW instructor to teach, tutor, or grade?
All IEW materials are intended to be used by individuals who have completed IEW’s Teaching Writing: Structure and Style seminar. Individuals who use the curriculum but do not complete the seminar lack a comprehensive understanding of the program. Accreditation ensures that the individuals you hire to tutor or grade teach IEW with fidelity to successfully help students become confident and competent communicators and thinkers.
