One of Andrew’s most popular conference presentations is “Nurturing Competent Communicators,” which is predicated on two points. In podcast Episode 251, Andrew and Julie revisit the first of the points, which is this: the importance of reading out loud to children. In the next episode, 252, they delve into the succeeding point: the cultivation of language skills through memorized language.

Over the course of the two recordings, Andrew shares what inspired him to formulate the content for this talk and then relates the most common sources where children get the majority of their language input on a daily basis. Andrew and Julie both assert the value, in fact the vital importance, of daily spending time reading to children.

As Andrew has repeatedly asserted, you can’t get something out of a brain that isn’t there to begin with. After listening to these podcasts, we hope you will be inspired to prioritize daily read-aloud time with your students. If all parents and teachers were to begin doing this, it would revolutionize education across America.
