We are excited to announce Success in Teaching Writing, an upcoming online conference that will focus on special needs. Happening on Saturday, January 16, 2021, this full-day writing conference will offer sessions for teachers and parents as well as students. The schedule of sessions is as follows:

  • 10:00 AM CT - Overcoming Obstacles in Reading and Writing
Combining his knowledge of child brain development and his personal experiences of teaching his own dyslexic child, Andrew Pudewa will encourage you while examining practical tools you can utilize with your own students.

  • 11:30 AM CT - Teaching Writing to Students with Special Needs
During this workshop, Andrew will teach you about how the Structure and Style® writing method adapts to any type of special learning situation. You will learn how to adjust your instruction to fit your student’s unique needs, how to encourage your student’s confidence, and how to implement practical tips for each of the nine IEW units.

  • 1:00 PM CT - Student Writing Workshop
This is a great way to get your students involved in learning how to write. Have them join in with this live writing class taught by Mr. Pudewa. When you register for the class, you will receive a link to download all of the necessary student materials for this interactive session. Students of all ages are welcome to attend this fun event!

  • 2:30 PM CT - Putting it All Together: Questions and Answers with Andrew Pudewa and Julie Walker
In the closing session, Andrew and Julie will take time to answer participants’ questions. When you register for the conference, you will have an opportunity to submit a specific question regarding teaching students with special learning needs. Andrew and Julie will share the submitted questions and offer helpful suggestions. If you teach students with special learning needs, this session will help you feel equipped for success.

It’s going to be a great day of learning and connection. To register for this free event, click here. If you know of another parent or educator who you think might enjoy this event, please share the information with him or her as well.

We are looking forward to sharing this educational and encouraging time with you. Teaching composition to students with special needs can be incredibly rewarding, and we look forward to sharing more about how you can help your students develop their confidence and competence in writing.
