At IEW we strive to provide not only high-quality products but also top-notch customer service. A recent blog series featured ten of the tools that we provide to our customers to aid them in their teaching endeavors. One of those tools is monthly webinars. This blog post specifically highlights our support webinars featuring three of IEW’s writing courses.
Many people love Structure and Style® for Students, our video-based courses. They are a great way to get started with our methodology. Others prefer our theme-based courses, which teach the same methodology but do not have video lessons. Regardless, if you are using video-based courses or theme-based writing lessons, you begin the year at Unit 1 and teach the structural units as taught in the Teaching Writing: Structure and Style teacher training seminar. As a bridge of support, IEW offers monthly support webinars. Through the year Andrew Pudewa and Jeff Nease each work through one of our courses unit by unit. During the webinar, they give an overview of the goals of the unit, work through a practice lesson, discuss the importance of the unit in the big picture of teaching writing, review the pacing to introduce stylistic techniques, and preview the checklist. At the end, attendees have the opportunity to ask questions. These webinars provide teachers and teaching parents the opportunity to see the concepts from Teaching Writing: Structure and Style in action.
In the 2025–2026 school year, Andrew and Jeff will present monthly webinars featuring two of our newest books: Frontiers in Writing and Investigations in Writing. Both of these books were developed in cooperation with Hillsdale College K-12 Education. In our Arts of Language podcast Episode 481, Andrew and Julie discuss this new line of courses and interview Dr. Kathleen O’Toole, Associate Vice President for K-12 Education. Of course, anyone can use and enjoy these books. In the webinar archive, you can find recorded support webinars for several of our other courses, including Adventures in Writing, Discoveries in Writing, and U.S. History-Based Writing Lessons.
Many of you have come to IEW through your involvement in Classical Conversations, which uses our history-based writing lessons. Last year, we started webinars specifically to support Classical Conversations communities. The Ancient History-Based Writing Lessons for Classical Conversations webinars can be found in the webinar archive. This year, Classical Conversations will use Medieval History-Based Writing Lessons, and the first support webinar will be August 25, 2025. You can sign up here to attend.
These support webinars are another one of the many ways that IEW supports teachers and teaching parents. Through Andrew’s and Jeff’s modeling, participants become more effective teachers, leading their students to become competent and confident communicators and thinkers.
