Looking at Literature: A Peek inside the Packages

Andrew Pudewa’s talk Nurturing Competent Communicators exhorts parents and teachers to do two things: Share the beauty and brilliance of literature with their students by reading it aloud, and teach them to memorize classic poetry. In doing so, he affirms, they are shaping their students’ “linguistic marble,” which provides the foundation for developing confident and competent communicators.

To assist you in those aims, we have curated three packages, which we will describe in this blog post. It is our hope that you will be able to select the perfect package to meet your students’ needs.

Basic Package: This package forms the foundation for the other two packages, containing just the program Linguistic Development through Poetry Memorization. Within this package you will receive the Teacher’s Manual as well as the audio CD recordings of the poems and speeches. The Student Book comes as a downloadable PDF, but if you wish to purchase it already printed, you can find it at this link.

Basic Plus Package: This package includes everything that is in the Basic Package plus Teaching the Classics, a video-based teacher program that guides you through discussing literature using Socratic questioning. Teaching the Classics includes the workbook and DVDs.

Premier Package: Including everything from the Basic Plus package, the Premier package adds one printed Student Book for Linguistic Development through Poetry Memorization as well as the book Timeline of Classics, a handy teaching resource that includes not only a chronological index of classic world literature but also instruction on how to guide students in Reader-Response Journaling, a method of journaling that strengthens students’ comprehension and helps them develop discernment and appreciation for classic literature.

Timeline of Classics contains distinctly Christian content.
