“It’s teaching them to think out what they want to say really methodically. That’s so good for autistic kids!” Marie Greenhalgh

Teaching writing to students is challenging, but when our students have other struggles, the challenge is magnified. In Podcast 186, Andrew Pudewa and Julie Walker speak with Marie Greenhalgh, mother of an autistic student. Andrew and Julie learned of Marie and her son after she wrote a letter to IEW, detailing the success she was experiencing teaching her son to write and communicate with IEW’s materials.

During the podcast Marie talks about some of her experiences teaching her son. She shares not only the curriculum she selected but also some of the tips and tricks she has cultivated to help her son improve his skills in a subject that used to be extremely difficult for him.

Are you a parent or teacher of a student who exhibits some signs of autism? Check out the podcast to hear Marie share the knowledge she has gained through her experiences working with her son. You will be so encouraged for your own journey with your student. For even more ideas be sure to read the letter she wrote that started the conversation. We think you will find it to be very helpful.
