What’s New at IEW for 2026

With the arrival of the new year, individuals often make resolutions and set new goals for themselves. Teachers reevaluate classroom practices and resolve to start the new semester with renewed energy and strong plans in place. In that same spirit of reflection and renewal, IEW isn’t content to just keep doing what it has been doing so successfully over the past three decades. The team has been busy in 2025 developing new products and practices to serve you better.

A New Edition

IEW’s mission is to equip teachers and teaching parents with methods and materials which will aid them in training their students to become confident and competent communicators and thinkers. In keeping with that mission, IEW’s award-winning Structure and Style® methodology has stood the test of time for over three decades. During this time Andrew Pudewa has refined his instruction of how to implement that methodology through years of experience in classrooms and through teacher training workshops. While the challenges faced by reluctant writers remain static, the society in which teachers educate has changed significantly in thirty years. Thus, IEW’s flagship product Teaching Writing: Structure and Style Third Edition (TWSS) will be released in early 2026.

Released a decade after the second edition, the third edition has been carefully updated to better meet the needs of today’s educators and students. Teachers will notice improved layout for better readability with detailed practicum instructions for easier implementation. In addition, teachers will benefit from exemplars that clearly model the Structure and Style methodology and will appreciate video content with chapter markers and both English and Spanish subtitles to support flexible viewing and review. This new edition will be available with streaming videos (or with DVDs for an additional fee).

The TWSS Third Edition includes the following:

• inspiring, humorous, and immensely practical video instruction.

• a Seminar Workbook, which serves as the guide that you will refer to again and again.

• Strengthening Structure: Models for Teaching IEW Structural Units.

• Portable Walls™ for Structure and Style® Students.

• a full year of IEW’s Premium Membership.

Because of the release of the TWSS Third Edition, two additional changes to products will occur. First, the Structure and Style for Students Premier packages will include the new edition of the TWSS. Second, the teacher’s manuals for all Structure and Style for Students video courses will include simplified references on the overview pages to find the relevant TWSS Third Edition videos to watch as students begin new structural units.

A New Name

“What’s in a name?” asked William Shakespeare. A name can convey meaning and the essence of something. For years IEW has offered theme-based writing lessons that teach the Structure and Style methodology with source texts centered on a particular theme: history, science, or literature. Because IEW partnered with Hillsdale College K-12 Education program, the new books include source texts from across many subjects, not just one theme. Students write about history, science, literature, music, and math. Because this series is also led by a teacher or teaching parent who has been through or is viewing the Teaching Writing: Structure and Style teacher training seminar, it was included in the list of theme-based writing lessons. However, the designation theme-based no longer accurately described all the books in that category. As a result, IEW has carefully reviewed the courses offered and renamed the category Writing Across the Curriculum. This most accurately reflects the content of the source texts for all these courses. You can request free lessons for the Hillsdale series and for the other Writing Across the Curriculum courses.

With the release of Journeys in Writing in January, the penultimate course in the Hillsdale series becomes available. Voyages in Writing will be released soon afterward. Although these books are written for seventh and eighth graders, they provide the level of challenge needed for students who have been working through the series systematically. The advanced level of instruction also makes them suitable for early high school students.

A New App

In 2026 IEW offers a new app for mobile devices. Look for the IEW Writing Toolbox in Google Play or the Apple Store. IEW Writing Toolbox app is the perfect tool for IEW students and teachers! It includes the IEW structural models with the new model charts and stylistic techniques, clearly explained and easy to apply. Additionally, the stylistic techniques include punctuation reminders and word lists. The search for a word features a focused thesaurus, helping you find -ly adverbs, strong verbs, and quality adjectives to enhance any composition. This toolbox contains everything writers need to write with structure and style—all in one convenient app.

Take the time to browse the new products on the website and download the new app to your mobile devices. Of course, IEW will continue to release relevant podcast episodes and weekly blog posts. Our theme for 2026 is Laying the Foundation. As you set your own goals for the coming year, rest assured that IEW continues to seek ways to fulfill its mission as you train your students to listen, speak, read, write, and think!
