Sherry Grubbs

An IEW Certified Instructor, Mrs. Grubbs believes it is vital to help students find their voices as authors as they build confidence and skill in this essential art. She strives to create a safe and encouraging class for all students. With care, she welcomes all students. Currently, she strives to meet the needs of bilingual students and those with various "neurospicy" learning needs, such as ADHD, dyslexia, autism, and giftedness.

Inspired by Andrew Pudewa’s sessions at a 2001 homeschool convention, she immediately found value in the IEW Structure and Style method. In 2002, she attended Mr. Pudewa’s live TWSS training seminar and implemented IEW with her children throughout their homeschooling journeys. For five years, she taught IEW for a weekly local co-op in Fort Wayne. Since 2019 Mrs. Grubbs has offered small-group online discussion-based IEW classes and private tutoring, using Zoom and Google Classroom.

Writing and speaking extensively in their chosen professions, her two oldest children are college graduates, while two others attend Purdue Fort Wayne. Her youngest is a high school senior who will graduate in 2026. Her four grandchildren have now fallen in love with stories, much to her delight. When not at her computer, Mrs. Grubbs loves to read, spend time in the sunshine, and enjoy chocolate!

IEW's Fix It! Grammar and vocabulary are integrated into her IEW writing classes. A unique feature of Mrs. Grubbs' classes is the quarterly book discussions using the Center for Lit’s Teaching the Classics Socratic discussion method. These literary discussions emphasize thinking skills while gently introducing literary analysis to prepare students for the TRIAC argumentative essays of IEW’s Unit 9. Additionally, they strategically provide an extra week for students to complete some writing assignments.
