Shelley Ramirez is an educational therapist, holding an A.S. in Early Childhood Education, a B.S in Communication Disorders & Sciences, and an M.A. in Educational Therapy.
Beyond this book knowledge, Shelley has firsthand experience in working with children with special needs. Her experience in this area began when she and her husband adopted four biological siblings through the foster system. While all of Shelley’s children are affected by prenatal exposure, they have varying diagnoses and special needs, which led Shelley to homeschool her children in an effort to provide a customized learning experience that would result in lower amounts of stress and anxiety for her children along with greater academic success.
As Shelley explored various homeschool curricula, she discovered IEW’s Structure and Style curriculum. IEW’s method of teaching elements of style while providing structure to students in the form of a checklist matches Shelley’s teaching philosophy as well as best practices in education. Consequently, Shelley has sought to use IEW’s system in her homeschool as well as in her private educational therapy practice.
Shelley desires to help other families support their children’s learning in a customized manner and advocate for their children. Her ultimate goal is to guide students to develop confidence within themselves and become lifelong autonomous learners.
