Hello, my name is Amanda Friesen. I have been an educator since 1990. Upon graduating from Wheaton College with a degree in Elementary Education, I taught 1st grade for six years. My husband Paul and I have four children, all of whom were homeschooled using the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) curriculum. Over the years I have taught a variety of home school co-op classes. My most rewarding experience has been teaching writing composition. With over ten years of experience using IEW, I delight in helping students discover the tools for effective communication. I especially enjoy teaching IEW to every type of learner. The IEW composition course can be easily expanded to inspire the verbose student to greater clarity. The course is also designed to be adapted to suit the needs of the struggling learner. This fall I look forward to teaching two levels of IEW courses: Wonders of Science Writing Lessons for 3rd-6th-grade students and Following Narnia: The Lion’s Song for 6th
grade and up. (First-year IEW students in the middle grades are encouraged to join Wonders Of Science.) Classes are held in Newton at St. Luke’s Evangelical Church each Tuesday, beginning September 19. Enrollment deadline is September 12.
