The conversation about dyslexia continues between Chris Pudewa and Julie Walker in Podcast Episode 198. In this second part of the two-part podcast, Chris focuses on his experiences while growing up. Find out how he has managed the weaknesses that accompany dyslexia while accentuating the strengths that occur because of it.
Chris spends some time talking about how he managed to learn despite being unable to read when he was younger. He also describes the method that he felt unlocked the code of printed words and ultimately enabled him to enter the world of reading. Chris’s advice to parents of dyslexic students is this: “Play to their strengths, not their disabilities.”
It’s true that there are many strengths that accompany dyslexia. The fact that a student is dyslexic doesn’t mean he or she will be unable to succeed academically or professionally. There are many successful dyslexics who are proof of that fact. So be encouraged as you listen to Chris’s personal testimony about his journey with dyslexia. You will find out that a dyslexic brain is a beautiful brain, filled with all sorts of special gifts.
