Ten Tools for the Journey: Accreditation and CEUs

Jun 19, 2025 | Posted by the IEW Blog Team

As part of IEW’s continued commitment to providing parents and teachers with help for the journey of training students to be confident and competent communicators and thinkers, we are presenting a series of blog posts highlighting tools we offer to that end. In previous installments we looked at IEW’s various newsletters and webinars, social media accounts, blog, podcast, Magnum Opus Magazine, learning differences page, IEW Online classes, and Schools Department. This is the last installment of that series: the IEW accreditation program and CEU opportunities.

IEW’s recently revamped instructor accreditation program exists to connect people who have demonstrated an understanding of IEW’s Structure and Style® methodology with people who are looking for someone to teach IEW methodology with fidelity to their students. The accreditation program benefits both teachers and students. When looking for someone to teach their students the IEW method, parents can navigate to the Find an Instructor page on our website, knowing that those listed there have been vetted by IEW. Moreover, accredited instructors benefit from having their name and the services they provide listed on our website, making it easy for people to connect with them.

There are four tiers of accreditation. A Trained IEW Instructor has demonstrated an understanding of IEW methodology by completing the Teaching Writing: Structure and Style (TWSS) and submitting the practicum assignments. An Experienced IEW Instructor has gone on to demonstrate that they have successfully taught the methodology to students for at least one year by submitting samples of graded student work and the Unit 8 practicum assignment. Accomplished IEW Instructor is the third tier. These instructors have two or more years of experience teaching IEW. Accomplished IEW Instructors submit samples of graded student work as well as a personal essay in addition to the Unit 8 practicum assignment. The fourth tier of accreditation is the Master IEW Instructor, which is reserved for IEW Founder and Director, Andrew Pudewa, and a few select others who train instructors for the Institute for Excellence in Writing.

Many schools require that teachers complete a certain number of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) each school year. IEW partners with Liberty University and ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International) to provide CEUs in conjunction with the Teaching Writing: Structure and Style (TWSS) seminar. If this is something that you are interested in, you can find the necessary information here.

Our instructor accreditation program is another one of the tools we offer to help you on your journey. Additionally, the ability to earn CEUs for those who complete the TWSS teacher-training seminar is advantageous for teachers. Clearly, IEW is committed to the mission to provide you with the tools you need to equip your students to become confident and competent communicators and thinkers.
