Culture, Curriculum, and Care: Part 2: Podcast Episode 274

Jun 16, 2021 | Posted by the IEW Blog Team

In the first installment of this two-part podcast series, Andrew Pudewa and Julie Walker discussed the first two components of “Culture, Curriculum, and Care,” the focus of last year’s webinar, “A Crash Course for Homeschooling.” In Episode 274 Andrew and Julie explore the third component: care.

It is important to learn not only how to care for others but also how to care for oneself. When you care for others or yourself, you are expressing charity. The question then becomes, how can we best express our care? This is the question that Andrew and Julie examine during this episode.

As you listen to it, you will hear Andrew share his personal experiences about how he has learned to cultivate self-care, as well as a few suggestions for books that helped shape his understanding of the vital importance of showing care for oneself. He has been on nearly a decade-long journey of self-care. To complete the series, he shares a passage from Dostoevsky’s novel The Brothers Karamazov that underscores the concept of care, and Julie wraps things up with a supporting story pulled from the soon to be released Structure and Style for Students Year 2B.

Listening to these two episodes, you will find inspiration for taking some time this summer to cultivate your own positive culture, curriculum, and care. It’s more important than ever.
