During last week’s show, podcast Episode 244, Andrew and Julie discussed the first of four points outlined in Andrew’s presentation, Paper and Pen: What the Research Says. That point specifically focuses on research related to reading on paper versus reading on a screen. In the second part of the conversation, podcast Episode 245, they turn the discussion to writing, not writing in the sense of composition, necessarily, but rather writing in terms of setting down on paper letters, words, and sentences.

Together they consider the following questions:

  1. Is it better to type or hand write?

  2. Is cursive or printing the superior choice for handwriting?

  3. If paper is indeed best, which instrument should students use? Pencil or pen?

Andrew spent a great deal of time investigating these questions. Packed with lots of compelling research, this episode will help you to strengthen your instruction to your students. Listen to it to learn how you can leverage the knowledge.
