Sherry Grubbs
An IEW Experienced Instructor, Mrs. Grubbs believes it is vital to help students find their voices as authors as they build confidence and skill in this essential art. She strives to create a safe and encouraging class environment that welcomes all students. With care and planning, she strives to meet the needs of bilingual students and those with a variety of "neurospicy" learning needs, such as ADHD, dyslexia, autism, and giftedness.
Inspired by Andrew Pudewa’s sessions at a 2001 homeschool convention, she immediately found value in the IEW Structure and Style method. In 2002, she attended Mr. Pudewa’s live TWSS training seminar and implemented IEW with her five children. For five years, she taught IEW for a weekly local co-op in Fort Wayne. Since 2019, Mrs. Grubbs has offered small-group online discussion-based IEW classes and private tutoring via Zoom and Google Classroom.
Writing and speaking extensively in their chosen professions, her three oldest children are college graduates, while in the fall of 2026, one other will be a senior at Purdue Fort Wayne and her youngest will start his freshman year in engineering at Purdue in West Lafayette. Her four grandchildren have now fallen in love with stories, much to her delight. When not at her computer, Mrs. Grubbs loves to read, soak up sunshine, and eat chocolate!
IEW's Fix It! Grammar and vocabulary are integrated into her IEW writing classes. A unique feature of Mrs. Grubbs' classes is the quarterly book discussions using the Center for Lit’s Teaching the Classics Socratic discussion method. These literary discussions emphasize thinking skills while gently introducing literary analysis to prepare students for the TRIAC argumentative essays of IEW’s Unit 9. Additionally, they strategically provide an extra week for students to complete some writing assignments.

Level B (grades 6-8) TBA
Level C Structure and Style for Students 2C (grades 9-12) NOTE: Prior IEW experience is needed for this high school text, but the 1C text is not essential before this 2C. I teach the content, so the student binder, not the video set, and other materials are recommended.
SUMMER 2026 private tutoring spots will open in early March, along with fall registration. Please contact me if you would like to be added to my waiting list.
Class registration for 2026-2027 will open in March. Stay tuned for class announcements!
If you are interested in my favorite class, Windows to the World, my year-long dive into literary analysis and the argumentative essay, please email me to be added to my email list for future classes. It appears there will be enough interest for 2027-2028. (Typically, I also offer SSS 1C.)
Please email mrsgrubbsteacher@gmail.com to request more information or to schedule a Zoom consultation/phone call.
