Founder and Author
As a primary teacher in the 1930s, a young woman named Anna Ingham faced a class of multileveled, multilingual students. She had to find a method of instruction that would allow her to teach the class corporately yet meet the needs of each student individually. During her teaching years (several decades), she designed a phonics-based reading and writing program, The Blended Sound-Sight Program of Learning.
Her efforts to share her program with thousands of Canadian teachers earned her the Order of Canada, that country's highest civilian award. With the help of her daughter Mrs. Shirley George, Mrs. Ingham (shown here at age 96) continued to inspire teachers with her energy and enthusiasm until her passing at age 101. Mrs. Ingham's nephew James Burton Webster, PhD, learned his aunt's program, helped her teach educators in summer courses, and determined that an expanded version of her methods would work well at the collegiate level.
