IEW's 2022 Writing Contest (CLOSED)

Thank you for your submissions! The writing contest for 2022 is now closed. Winners will be announced in a special July edition of Magnum Opus Magazine!

 

We are delighted to present our annual writing contest for all aspiring and accomplished writers, ages eight to eighteen. Whether or not they have experience with IEW's Structure and Style® Writing Method, your students are invited to participate.**

For both the students and their teachers we have great prizes for the top three in each category!

  • First Prize: $100.00 (for student) + $100.00 IEW gift certificate (for parent or teacher)
  • Second Prize: $50.00 (for student) + $50.00 IEW gift certificate (for parent or teacher)
  • Third Prize: $25.00 (for student) + $25.00 IEW gift certificate (for parent or teacher)

Every participant will receive a gift code for a free Play It Write card game; the family pays only for shipping.

Here's how to participate:

1. Figure out your category.*

  • Level A (ages 8-10)
  • Level B (ages 11–13)
  • Level C (ages 14 and older)

*Enter level according to the student's age as of March 1, 2022.

2. Write your essay or paper.

We have three different prompts: one for Level A (ages 8-10), Level B (ages 11-13), and Level C (ages 14  and older). These writing prompts and guidelines must be followed in order for your entry to be considered.

Checklist

  • Format with Times New Roman, 12 pt. font, double-spaced.
  • Do not include your name on your paper.
  • Center the title.

Level A

Write a 2-paragraph composition answering this prompt: "Describe a location that is interesting or important to you. Your location can be a real place or an imaginary one."

Level B

Write a 4- to 5-paragraph composition answering this prompt: "Describe a location that is significant to you in some way. Your location can be a real place or an imaginary one."

Level C

Write a 5- to 7-paragraph essay answering this prompt: "Describe a location that has great significance to you. Your location can be a real place or an imaginary one."

 

3. Submit your entry.

By April 30, 2022, at 11:59PM CT, fill out the form above and upload your paper. Papers will be evaluated by IEW's online instructors.**
