Considering the Possibilities of Unit 3: Podcast Episode 246

Nov 25, 2020 | Posted by the IEW Blog Team

Andrew and Julie invited Nathan King to join them in the recording studio for podcast Episode 246. Nathan, a Project Manager for IEW, also enjoys writing fiction. Because November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), it felt like an especially appropriate time for this episode to reflect on writing fiction.

In Unit 3, students encounter the Story Sequence Chart. Using the movie The Princess Bride as his example, Nathan illustrated how it would be possible to string multiple Unit 3 pieces together to create a longer narrative that has many story arcs. As one mini story concludes, the writer introduces the next setting and characters to continue the overall narrative.

If you have students who love to write stories, this podcast episode is one you should definitely check out. And be sure to send those student stories to Magnum Opus Magazine, IEW’s premier showcase for student work. Digitally published each month, the magazine is a great way for your students to experience the satisfaction of being published.
