IEW History and Bio:
I used the IEW® methods and materials with my own family since 2008.
From 2014-2018 I used these methods, updated skill in a previous tertiary archaeology venture, and earned a B.Mus Degree with specialisation in African Composition (4- year Bachelors is the US equivalent). I am TEFL Level 5 certified. The Iditarod® Committee's Education department certified me as an Iditarod® Certified Educator (ICE). From the esteemed National Geographic Society, I hold various certifications: Explorer Mindset Educator, Teaching Global Climate Change, Applying Geographic Thinking Skills and several story telling certifications. During 2023 I completed a post graduate diploma in Dyslexia.
Communication Technology:
Zoom is my platform of choice for live interactive classes where students have a voice and are encouraged to participate. My aim is to keep classes as close to what you can expect from an in person class. I also offer asynchronous classes.
Learning Challenges:
I am well versed in Executive Functioning, ADD, ADHD, and Sensory Integration matters as this impacted our homeschool journey daily. My one son could not read or write at age 10.5! Perseverance and dedication was the ame of the game. Today, despite their deficits, both are functioning well: one as a Data Scientist working in AI, and the other as an Aerospace Engineer with specialization in Astronautics.
Dyslexia:
During 2023 I completed postgraduate study though Seattle Pacific University in dyslexia with the esteemed Dr. Frenette Eide. My own family contended with dyslexia, sensory integration issues and attention deficit disorder. I have much practical experience and all my own curricula support tools for dyslexia.
Write Across the Curriculum:
I authored several inspiring Write-Across-the-Curriculum texts that are year long studies. These are well suited for use with the IEW® methods: Working Animals, Alaska and the Arctic, Shackleton's Antarctica, People Worth Knowing, Music History and Word Music.
