While Andrew was out of the office traveling last week, Julie Walker welcomed his son, Chris Pudewa, into the studio. Chris, Andrew’s only son, is dyslexic. In Podcast Episode 197, the first of two podcasts featuring Chris, he shares with the audience about growing up with dyslexia and how he first learned that he was dyslexic.

Dyslexia is a neurological difference in the brain that causes people affected by it to struggle with tasks beyond reading and spelling. It can also lead to difficulty in math or struggles with completing tasks. But it’s not all negative. Dyslexia offers some strengths, a few of which Chris describes during the podcast.

Additionally Chris shares information about research that posits the reasons some people struggle with dyslexia. Occuring on a continuum, dyslexia is the most common learning disability, affecting up to 20 percent of the population. Perhaps you, one of your children, or one of your students has dyslexia. Listen to this podcast to gain some perspective about this learning difference, and be encouraged.
