Originally from San Jose, California, Tina McMahel earned her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from San Jose State University. Starting out as a preschool teacher eventually led Tina to homeschool her own children over an eighteen-year span. In 2008 Tina enrolled her oldest son in a local IEW class. Immediately she observed a dramatic transformation in his writing, and she knew this was no ordinary writing class. After six years of sitting in on classes with both of her sons and seeing a need in the local homeschool tutorials, she became an accredited IEW instructor to share IEW with other students. She has taught private group classes, tutored one-on-one, and worked with elementary, middle school, and high schoolers at several tutorials in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. Tina enjoys seeing so many reluctant writers flourish through the IEW program, and she is excited to be a part of influencing young writers by teaching for IEW Online classes.
