Amy Shearer

Amy is one of Andrew Pudewa’s former students from the level B classes during the filming of the Structure and Style for Students (SSS) program, but she’s currently taking IEW SSS classes again—this time through dual enrollment—from Christian Halls International (CHI).

We contacted Amy to get a student’s-eye view of what it’s like to get college credit for her IEW classes.

Why did you decide on dual enrollment for your IEW classes this year?

I think dual enrollment is cheaper than going to college. I decided to go with IEW classes because Comp 1 and Comp 2 are required. Why not take a course where you’re going to get quality education so you can use it in other places?

Does CHI give you any support as you turn in your IEW classwork?

We turn in the assignment at the start of the week and they (the CHI graders) tell us what they liked in what we did and how we could do better for the next week.

Would you recommend this program to other students?

Absolutely! I feel like IEW takes an approach that other college courses don't take, and I can use what I learn there in other courses. I'm taking psychology right now, and I'm using IEW in my papers there.

Has dual enrollment been a simple process for you?

There was a learning curve, like learning how to turn things in online. I've only learned directly from Mr. Pudewa where we turned things in during class, so it's different working with someone else, but those issues were pretty much resolved at the beginning of class.

Do you have any advice for other people considering dual enrollment?

Don't leave an assignment until the last minute to turn it in. Figure out the due date and set yours a few days in advance. I once had a panic when the internet went out at my house when I needed to turn in a paper. That wasn't good! But it all worked out.
